Skills and competences
CINECA is the technological partner of the project. It was created in 1969 as an Interuniversity Consortium for computing and is today the largest computing center in Italy and one of the most important worldwide. With more than 350 employees, it operates in the technological transfer sector through high performance scientific computing, the management and development of networks and web-based services, and the development of complex information systems for treating large amounts of data.
The role in the project is to be the responsible for designing, realising and operating the e-infrastructure of the laboratory, specifically at the bioinformatics level.
The main targets are related to data storage, computational bioinformatics, supports of other partners for the analysis and realisation of bioinformatics tools, the development of Gebba.MA, a tool for archiving and analysing microarray data.
Data: management with security criteria of data archives, data base organisation, specific tools for data federation and interoperability, knowledge about standards for data interchange, data mining and statistical packages
Computational support for science: disciplinary knowledge in chemistry, physics, bioinformatics, parallelisation and optimisation of scientific algorithms, HPC and massively parallel computers systems management and operation
Bioinformatics: involvement in several projects and activities related to life science and bioinformatics, at the regional (Gebba.Lab), national level (LIBi, RNBIO) and European level (ImmunoGrid)
